The Municipality of Ii
Ii is situated in northern Finland by the Gulf of Bothnia, 40 km north of Oulu. The current population is about 9200. Two rivers, the Iijoki and the Kuivajoki flow through Ii. Ii was a major trading place as early as the 14th century. Nowadays we are a part of a larger economic area around Oulu. The name Ii comes from a Lappish word meaning 'a place to rest, a place to spend the night in'.

International Connections
Internationalism is one of the things we focus on at Ii Upper Secondary School. We have had several international contacts over the years and many projects have been carried out successfully. There's always something going on.
Our current partners:
Baktay Ervin Gimnázium is situated by the Danube, about 25 km south of Budapest, Hungary. We have been involved in co-operation projects since 1995. At the beginning, our theme was UNESCO World Heritage program focusing on local history and culture. At present we work on a Comenius Project launched in autumn 2008.
Our Russian partner school is situated in Kronstadt, on an island off St Petersburg. Our co-operation started in 1994 and we have visited each other in connection with several different themes.
Our newest friends are from Unesco Hauptschule in Ferlach, Austria. They are our partners in the Comenius project.
You can find more detailed reports of our international projects by clicking on the links under "International contacts" on the left hand navigation on the page.
